Feeding Foxes by Peter Grimaldi

Feeding Foxes

The old man walks quietly from his home
Through the dark love of morning
As sundust rides waves of light
He looks for the fox.
She sits every morning on his yard, waiting, wild pet.
He throws dog treats towards her
Each treat a handshake between them,
Man and nature, understanding and fear,
She walks slowly to the food,
Grabs the treats in her mouth and retreats.
Quietly to a hidden den
Knowing only what she sknows
Not what the old man knows.
