False Expectations by Torie Cooper

I made love to the wind
and gave birth to a hurricane.
Warm,
bloody placenta
laying on cold, hard
hospital floor
is all that’s left of our
dangerous relationship.
We both knew it would
end this way
pregnant with stillborn hope.
